Life's Most Memorable Wedding Moments PDF Print E-mail

Weddings are made up of a series of magical, memorable moments. Here are some romantic, funny and weird wedding day memories from real-life brides and grooms!

Marrying Traditions
When Heather married Gareth she wanted to incorporate his Irish background into their traditional Jewish wedding. They asked the band to learn a traditional Irish ballad called Wild Mountain Thyme and Heather recalls dancing to that song as the most romantic part of their wedding.

"I remember dancing with Gareth and looking into his eyes and seeing the love he had for me and knowing not only was it real, but that it would stand the test of time. I honestly felt true peace and happiness."

An Eye for Romance
Seeing the bride for the first time is one of the most exciting parts of a wedding, but when Darrin married Franceen, not being able to see her is his most memorable memory.

Darrin and Franceen had their photos taken before the ceremony, so the photographer set up something special for the first time Darrin would see Franceen in her wedding gown. The photographer had them stand on opposite sides of a doorway, hidden from each other's view. Slowly they were allowed the open the door, first peeking their heads around until Franceen walked into the room where Darrin was waiting.

"She looked beautiful, and the anticipation of seeing her all dressed up was even better because of the dramatic entrance. We got some really amazing pictures."

Lighting Up the Night
Sparks usually fly between a bride and groom on their wedding day, but it was the lack of electricity that made one wedding memorable for Barbi. Two years ago during a blackout that darkened most of Toronto, Barbi was a bridesmaid at one of her closet friends' wedding. With no power in the hall, the bride and groom came up with inventive ways to light up the night.

They used candles to light the room where the ceremony took place and ended up creating an ultra-romantic atmosphere. The band, photographer and videographer hooked their equipment up to generators. Even the lack of air-conditioning on a stifling summer's night didn't put a damper on the wedding.

"What a mess!" recalled Barbi. "It was wonderful though. A night we'll never forget."

As if the wedding wasn't bad enough, when the couple reached their hotel after the reception, they had to walk up 12 flights of stairs to reach the honeymoon suite!

Wedding Night Wreckage
At least that couple had a relaxing night once they reached their hotel room. After planning her wedding to Elan for almost a year, Shari couldn't wait to spend their wedding night in a beautiful hotel. Unfortunately Elan's friends had sabotaged their room.

"They short sheeted the bed, put newspaper under the sheets, hid all the toilet paper, put a table in the bathtub, set our alarm for 5 am and requested wake up calls for 6:00 am and 6:30 am," Shari said with a laugh.

Sentimental Value
Luckily for Marla, the surprise she got at her wedding was much more sentimental than a trashed hotel room.

Marla's grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's disease and barely recognized his own family. His illness sometimes made him say inappropriate things and Marla worried how he'd behave at her wedding.

But on her wedding day in chilly November, his reaction to her short-sleeved gown was one she'll treasure forever.

"He kept asking if I was cold. I'll never forget that moment. My grandfather who didn't always remember my name acted like the grandfather I had grown up with, watching out for me and wanting to make sure I was well."

A Unique Wedding Dance

One wedding memory that stands put for Peter is something he wishes never happened. One of the bridesmaids got drunk, started dancing around like a stripper and hit on the rabbi who performed the wedding ceremony. That's one wedding memory we're sure everyone would like to forget!
